book series

A nice plot?

Ah, we've got you guys. So here are our top 10 book series recommendations with strong women protagonists that you won't be able to put down.

Book series

The Hunger Games

This dystopian series by Suzanne Collins is set in the post-apocalyptic nation of Panem, North America. The political front here controls the rest of the nation by organising an annual Hunger Games where people from each district are asked to send one boy and one girl between the age of 12 and 18.

This game, like any other game, is no fun to play. It's a battle of life and death where the victorious are sole survivors. It becomes even crueller as the fight is shown live on tv.

The protagonist Katniss Everdeen has also been selected as a contender. And now she has difficult choices to make in her life.

The reason why this protagonist is amazing is that she is neither too clever nor too emotional. And its this "normal_city" (if it's a word) of this character that makes it extraordinary.

As the series is narrated by Katniss herself you'll definitely love the perspective of it as well. So if you're a fan of good YA dystopian fiction, then this one is for you.

Book series

Divergent

This YA fiction by Veronica Roth is packed with action, adventure, sci-fi and romantic elements. Set in Chicago in post-apocalyptic times where people are divided into five factions, each faction depicting the honest, the selfless, the brave, the peaceful and the intelligent.

So when our protagonist Beatrice turns sixteen she has to make a choice of which faction she wants to join. Ultimately she makes her choice but cannot live up to it.

Though sometimes compared to the hunger games series, it differs from it bcoz of its characters. Beatrice (later Tris) is a less broken character as compared to Katniss. Both have difficult choices to make,  but the condition of Tris seems less difficult than Katniss's.

Book series

The Lady Sherlock Series

This Literary Series by Sherry Thomas is about Charlotte Holmes who is gifted with inferable knowledge and keen intellect. Her parents never gave value to her possession, until when a series of mysterious deaths began accusing her father and her sister.

Charlotte is miserable and the only way to save her family is to find the true culprits. Therefore she creates the fictional character of "Sherlock Holmes"  and solves several murder mysteries in the next books too, under this tag.

The unique plot and the essence of feminism are the two main reasons why this series received a lot of appreciation from the readers. It besides talks about the restricted opportunities women had in Victorian England at that time.

Book series

The Twilight Saga

This YA vampire romance novel by Stephenie Meyer introduces us to Bella Swan, who moves to Washington to live with her father. She is admitted to a new high school where she meets Edward (a vampire) and consequently falls in love with. Well, you can imagine how disastrous its consequences are going to be.

It contains four books namely:

  • Twilight
  • New moon
  • Eclipse
  • Breaking dawn

The film adaptation of the series was also received well by the audience. Kristen Stewart as Bella Swan has played the role incredibly. As well as other characters too are outstanding.

Book series

The Naughtiest Girl Series

As the title very clearly says, our main character is a bold, naughty and spoilt girl, called Elizabeth Allen. But the crazy she may sound, she is one of the most impressive characters I've ever read about.

So the first book introduces us to Elizabeth Allen who, without her permission, is been sent to a boarding school, called Whyteleafe school (I still don't have any idea how to pronounce it, but keeping that aside, the school was amazing).

So she decides to behave so badly in the school so that they would send her back. Consequently, the series is all about her adventure in the school.

Personally, I always wanted to become somebody like Elizabeth Allen when I was in school, though she was not an ideal student, I ended up failing to do that, although.

It's an adorable book and a must-read for school going boys and girls. Well, for any age group this book is sure to remind your old school memories.

Book series

Ram Chandra Series

This Indian mythological-fiction by Amish Tripathi is a  brilliant retelling of Ramayana (an ancient epic). The author has used a multilinear narrative style to write this book. And therefore, it's the second book which is focused on our female protagonist, Sita.

The portrayal of Sita, as the Prime Minister of her state, a brave, independent and self-confident woman who fights for herself, is great. Interpreting the ancient epic by way of modern times is the USP of Amish.

Recommended for everyone. Also if you are planning to pick this, the first book is not much liked by many people (though I loved it). But it's the second book where everything starts up. So don't skip the first one.

Book series

The Court of Thorns and Roses

This YA fantasy by Sarah J. Mass follows Feyre Archeron, who after killing a faerie wolf, is kidnapped and held in the faerie land court for punishment.
As she is captivated there, Feyre discovers that her kidnapper is not what she was believing him to be.

Consequently, the hate she felt for him turned into a passion.

Magical land, mysterious characters, action-packed adventures fill up the rest of the books. These are:

  • The court of thorns and roses
  • The court of mist and fury
  • The court of wings and ruin
  • The court of frost and starlight

Book series

The Maze Runner

This YA science fiction by James Dashner features a group of teenagers who are held in a weird place (called Glade), with lost memories. And the only way out is to cross the ever-changing maze which till now no one has ever made through alive.

Unique plot, awesome characters, and the suspense created by the author won't allow you to put it down.

The series involves 5 books:

  • The maze runner
  • The scorch examinations
  • The death cure
  • The kill order
  • The fever code

The female character in this series is Teresa who's not the main character but has an important role to play. And if you're tired of reading paranormal romance in thrillers then this one is a must-read for you.
